The Pelvic Spine Connection

(1 Contact Hour or .1 CEU)

Understand the biomechanics of the spine and the influence it has on seating and positioning. Learn the role that development plays in posture and examine how properly fit equipment and postural supports plays a role.

Presented by: Tina Roesler, MSPT or Leah Cole, OT

The Support You Need: Protecting the Hemiparetic Shoulder

(1.5 Contact Hours or .15 CEU)

In complex rehabilitation technology, we pay special attention to seating and wheeled mobility, but often overlook other areas of support. The consequences of a hemiparetic shoulder can greatly impact function over time, and the evidence shows that proper intervention and support are critical in preventing or minimizing long term problems. We will examine interventions and the research behind it.

Belt Mounting Angles to Maximize Pelvic Positioning

(1.5 Contact Hour or .15 CEU)

In this webinar, we will discuss the fundamental criteria to consider when evaluating wheelchair seating for effective positioning of the pelvis for stability and support. Pelvic positioning is a critical element of a seating assessment and the most used secondary support for the pelvis is the pelvic positioning belt. In this presentation, belt mounting angles and options will be discussed to address different types of pelvic asymmetry. This program has been approved for .15 CEU /1.5 contact hours from the University of Pittsburgh.

Turning Clinical Need into Innovative Product: Looking at the Process

(1 Contact Hour or .1 CEU)

While many clinicians are able to custom modify or fabricate equipment to fit a client’s needs, it is always nice to find an off-the-shelf solution that is appropriate for many. But why is it so hard to develop new product in a timely manner? This presentation reviews the product development process, the role clinicians play, and the importance it plays in evidence-based practice.

Why Standards Matter

(1 Contact Hour or .1 CEU)

When you have so many choices of seating and mobility equipment, how do you determine which products will result in the desired clinical outcomes? While trial and error is a starting point, standards for seating and wheeled mobility are important in ensuring that products are safe, durable, and are designed with the client in mind. In this session, we will discuss what standards exist in our industry, who determines the standards, and why they are important to clinical practice. We will review some specific standards related to seating and postural support to provide real-world examples.
